It's worth the investment and truly does do a better job than a Conair. I recently purchased a GHD. They are about twice the cost of the Chi, but my stylist used one on my hair and it made my hair silky smooth. I, however, purchased the *regular grade* one that doesn't work as fantastic as the salon grade one (which is only $40 more). So, if you are wanting to splurge it's a nice one but def go with the salon grade GHD. Otherwise it's just the same as a Chi. OK, I had a Chi that lasted for nearly 10 years.
